They say time flies when you’re having fun, and that sentiment definitely holds true for us. We have spent another amazing and science-filled day here at La Selva. Everyone is excited to tell y’all about their days today, which avid readers will find basically the same as every other day. Pollinator group measured nectar. We can conclude that it is in fact nectar.

This stance is giving “teens looking down at their phones,” but Kianna and Zach are actually doing really good science.

Bromeliad groups worked in the lab on tasks like ImageJ and statistical analysis. MT taped 48 bromeliad leaves to a counter and Porter covered 15 leaves in nail polish.

Two eyes are better than one.

Antlion people sampled the abiotic conditions of their study populations and recounted individuals within them. Caroline sacrificed ants to the antlions just for fun.

I thought I was going crazy when I walked past the shrubs and something said my name, but turns out Caroline was hunting for ants on the other side.

99% of the day, we were very serious and focused. The other 1% composed of Sophie taking .5 photos of everyone.

Us if we were silly little one-eyed creatures

A few days ago, we set out trail cameras on a tip about tapir sightings. We have waited with bated breath, and today, the pollinator group finally had good news to report. Not only did we see a tapir, we also caught a pair of curassows, some other silly looking mammals, and 2 more ocelots (bringing up the total to 5). We were jazzed to get these photos because the animals are so cool, but also some of the researchers at La Selva were actually thankful for the information on species distributions.

Everyone joined up in the air conditioned lab to work on their projects for a bit, but we decided to go off base for dinner. The food at La Selva has been fantastic, but it was nice to have a change of scenery. Once again, we had a riddle filled dinner (if anyone has any good riddles, please pass them along). After a delicious meal, we told the waiter about Clay’s birthday this Sunday so that we could snag a free dessert. We wandered around yet another gift shop then returned to La Selva where half of the group went back to the lab and the rest went off to a well deserved shut eye.
